Stormy Weather Today: Attica, Ionian, Macedonia, and Thessaly Hit by Thunderstorms

The weather forecast by EMY indicates local rain showers and sporadic thunderstorms in central Macedonia (mainly in Halkidiki), eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, Evia, Epirus, Sterea, and Peloponnese. These phenomena will be intense in some areas, particularly in Halkidiki, the Sporades, and Magnesia during the morning and in western-central Sterea and Peloponnese from late morning to afternoon. Temperatures are expected to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius compared to recent highs, not exceeding 30-32 degrees Celsius, with temperatures reaching up to 33-34 degrees Celsius in some western continental and southern island regions. Winds will blow from northern directions at 3-5 Beaufort in the west, 4-6 Beaufort in the east, and locally 7 Beaufort in the Aegean. Attica will generally remain clear with clouds developing and localized showers and isolated thunderstorms appearing in the afternoon. In Thessaloniki, occasional cloud cover is predicted along with local showers and sporadic thunderstorms in the morning until early afternoon. Macedonia and Thrace will experience similar conditions with more pronounced activity in central Macedonia, especially in Halkidiki. Western Greece, including the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Sterea, and western Peloponnese, will remain mostly clear but may encounter local showers and scattered thunderstorms by midday, which could become severe in parts of western Sterea and western Peloponnese. Eastern Sterea, Evia, and eastern Peloponnese will also witness such conditions, while the Cyclades and Crete will remain mostly sunny with brief cloudy periods. The islands of the eastern Aegean and Dodecanese will enjoy clear skies overall.
