Stormy Weather in Greece: Strong Winds and Thunderstorms Expected

The country is currently under the influence of an intense weather system known as ‘Ines,’ bringing heavy rains and stormy winds. According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), conditions are expected to worsen on Friday, May 16, 2025. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will hit western, central, and northern regions, with strong winds affecting eastern and southern areas. Specific forecasts indicate clouds with localized heavy rain and thunderstorms over Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca, northwestern Peloponnese, central Sterea, Thessaly, Corfu, Diapontian Islands, Paxi, Lefkada, Epirus, western and central Macedonia, and northeastern Aegean islands like Lemnos. African dust may reach southern areas including Crete, Cyclades, Dodecanese, and southern Peloponnese. Localized southeast gale-force winds up to 9 Beaufort are forecasted over the Aegean Sea and Crete. Temperatures will slightly drop in the north but rise elsewhere, ranging from 20°C in the north to 26-27°C in Crete.
