Storm Alert: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Hit 5 Regions – Zagora Records 191.2mm

An updated severe weather bulletin remains in effect today (02.02.2026) for Eastern Aegean, Dodecanese, Crete, southern Evia, and northern Cyclades, as issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY). Though the storm has weakened, EMY downgraded its warning to orange level. Torrential rain and strong thunderstorms are expected in Crete, southern Evia, and northern Cyclades until early morning, while conditions will persist in the Eastern Aegean and Dodecanese until noon. According to new precipitation maps, Zagora Pelion received the highest rainfall—191.2 mm—on Sunday, the peak day of the storm. Agia in Larissa followed with 108 mm, triggering flash floods. Other high-impact locations include Kalentzi (Achaea, 100.4 mm), Simopetra (96.2 mm), Rizomata (Imathia, 91.0 mm), Neochori (Chalkidiki, 89.6 mm), Megali Panagia (Chalkidiki, 73.6 mm), and mountainous Naupaktia (72.2 mm). A total of 9,316 lightning strikes were recorded—1,466 over land and 7,850 over sea—by 19:30 on Sunday. Strong winds are expected across affected areas. Snowfall is forecast for mountainous and semi-mountainous zones of eastern Macedonia and Thrace, including low-altitude parts of Thrace, until noon today.
