Storm Alert for Attica: Kallianos Warns of Afternoon Thunderstorms

Meteorologist Giannis Kallianos sounded the alarm early Sunday afternoon (01.02.2026) for worsening weather in Attica. Though heavy morning rains and thunderstorms eased by noon—giving way to sunshine—he urged residents not to be misled: a second round of intense rain and thunderstorms is expected from late afternoon through the night. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) updated its Emergency Weather Warning Bulletin No. 3/2026, highlighting prolonged, heavy rainfall across much of Greece, especially in Thessaly, Central Macedonia, the Eastern Aegean, Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Crete, Sterea Hellas, and Evia. Strong winds up to 8–9 Beaufort, localized hail, and snowfall in mountainous and low-altitude northern areas—including parts of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace—are also forecast. Special attention is advised for travel and outdoor activities during peak storm periods.
