Stops the free HPV vaccination from the 1st of January in the ages from 18 to 26 years old

At low levels continues to be the vaccination coverage against the human papillomavirus…
(HPV) in our country, although the vaccine is free of charge and this will be valid until end of 2016, as from 1 January 2017, it stops the free HPV vaccination between the ages of 18 – 26 years old.
According to the “Aretaieiou” hospital, vaccination against the HPV virus and is now up to 40%, while in Australia reaches 95%.
“Given the temper of the Greeks, who in general are afraid of vaccines, we should be satisfied with this percentage,” he stressed during a Press conference, on the occasion of the 10th Athens Congress on Women’s Health and Morbidity, Efthimios Δεληγεώρογλου, professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Department of pediatric-Adolescent Gynecology, Endocrinology, and Reconstructive Surgery, “Aretaieiou” hospital.
That from 2017, the vaccine ceases to be granted free of charge and should be paid entirely by the insured of a particular age group, you should act as an incentive for their vaccinations, which have already been delayed, said George Κρεατσάς, professor of the university of Athens and director of the second Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, university of Athens, “Aretaieio” hospital.
In fact, as he said, in the coming months, we will urge our colleagues, of all disciplines involved in the vaccination course programme, in order to achieve satisfactory coverage in young women in Greece and to take advantage as much as possible more than the free administration of the vaccine.
In our country the vaccine is included in the compulsory vaccines proposed by the National Immunization Program and from January 2015 there are new developments concerning the composition and compensation of the vaccine against HPV.
In particular, the age of initiation of the recommendation for vaccination was transferred to 11 years. The vaccine is recommended for all girls 11-15 years of age and for women 15-26 years of age, who haven’t had the chance to be vaccinated on the originally proposed age. In addition, the doses of the vaccine decreased in 2 out of 3 for younger adolescents, a fact that favors the increase of compliance and so the vaccination coverage.
In particular, the National Immunization Schedule recommends two doses for ages 11-15 years of age, with an interval of 6 months (0, 6), which continue to be granted free of charge. In addition, for teens 15 – 18 years of age, vaccination is still given free with the vaccination course format includes three doses.
According to mr Δεληγεώρογλου, so the διδύναμο, and the quadrivalent vaccine against the HPV virus, which are circulating in our country, it is absolutely safe, have no side effects, it is necessary to be done in both men and women, because it protects from cancer of the cervix, but also from the transmission of the virus through sexual contact.
But the cost of the free vaccination is quite high and as mr Δεληγεώρογλου, Austria, which attempted to bore just a 12 months free of charge for use in boys and girls.
The speakers, referring to the topics of the conference noted that this year the focus of the work will be found in the issue of the falling birth rate in Greece, according to data from the Statistical Authority, the 2014 deaths increased by 1.7%, while births decline by 2.1%.
“Men and women pay more attention to you anymore in terms of contraception, abortions have decreased in relation to the past, while teenage pregnancies are not a common occurrence. However, the economic crisis has affected, and family planning and, of course, the change of the position of women in Greek society. All of these have been as a result of the reduction of the birth rate in our country,” said mr. Κρεατσάς.
