Stock Markets: Slight Drop for Athens General Index Amid European Volatility

Stock prices edged lower at the opening of today’s (22 July 2026) session on Euronext Athens, following yesterday’s strong gains, while European markets traded with mixed momentum.

At 11:30 a.m. local time, the Athens General Index stood at 2,497.47 points — down 0.12% on the day. Total turnover amounted to €25.97 million.

The Large Cap Index fell 0.21%, while the Mid Cap Index edged up 0.03%. The Banking Index declined to 2,839.29 points, registering a drop of 0.29%.

Jumbo shares are trading ex-dividend today, excluding the €0.70 per share dividend.

European Markets

European equities opened mostly lower amid investor focus on escalating tensions in the Middle East and anticipation of earnings reports from major U.S. technology companies.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index dipped marginally by 0.12% to 642.78 points at 11:30 a.m. Greek time.

By contrast, the UK’s FTSE 100 rose 0.22%, Germany’s DAX gained 0.23%, and France’s CAC 40 advanced 0.35%. Italy’s FTSE MIB climbed 0.23%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 slipped 0.20%.

Investors are awaiting quarterly results from tech giants including Alphabet and Tesla.

Oil and gas stocks bucked the broader trend, rising alongside a rebound in crude oil prices amid further escalation of regional conflict in the Middle East.
