Markets in Athens are posting resilient gains, with the Euronext Athens index continuing its upward momentum—driven largely by strong performance in the banking sector. Investor confidence, both domestic and foreign, remains intact, helping the benchmark General Index break through the 2,500-point barrier on Thursday, 2 July 2026, and push toward 2,530 points—up roughly 1%.

Athens Hits 17-Year High

On Friday, 3 July 2026, the Athens Exchange reached a new 17-year high, once again led by bank stocks. The banking index is up more than 1% since the market opened Friday morning, with National Bank of Greece and Eurobank taking the lead. The large-cap index rose nearly 1%, while the mid-cap index gained around 0.5%.

Top Gainers and Losers

Among large-cap stocks, Titan Cement, National Bank of Greece, Motor Oil, and Jumbo posted the strongest gains. In contrast, Aktor and GEK Terna recorded the steepest declines. Overall, 61 stocks advanced, 33 fell, and 16 held steady. Total trading value approached €50 million.

Mixed Signals Across European Markets
