Athens Stock Exchange (Euronext Athens) ended Wednesday, July 22, 2026, on a positive note — marking its third consecutive day of gains. The General Index closed at 2,506.79 points, up 0.24%, as investors refrained from profit-taking following Tuesday’s banking sector rally.
Trading volume reached €286.75 million, with 45.79 million shares changing hands. The large-cap index rose 0.29%, while the mid-cap index dipped 0.73%.
Among large-cap stocks, Titan Cement led gains with a 5.31% rise, followed by Viohalco (+2.78%), Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE, +2.21%), Coca-Cola HBC (+2.09%), Cyprus Airways (+1.90%), and OTE (+1.64%). On the downside, EYDAP fell 6.54%, Elvalhalcor dropped 6.25%, Aktor declined 4.61%, CrediaBank slid 3.03%, Allwyn fell 1.85%, and PPC (Public Power Corporation) edged down 1.66%.
Jumbo shares traded ex-dividend for the €0.70 per share payout. CrediaBank and Elvalhalcor accounted for the highest trading volumes — 9.35 million and 7.76 million shares respectively. Piraeus Bank recorded the highest turnover value at €39.74 million, followed by Elvalhalcor at €29.81 million.
Overall, 41 stocks advanced, 67 declined, and 15 remained unchanged.
European Markets Hold Gains Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty
Major European stock indices also rose despite escalating tensions in the Middle East. According to Reuters, signs of easing inflation in the UK — alongside anticipation of second-quarter earnings reports from major tech firms — are supporting investor sentiment.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 gained 0.65% to 647.32 points. London’s FTSE 100 rose 1.37% to 10,700, Frankfurt’s DAX climbed 0.62% to 25,165, and Paris’s CAC 40 advanced 1.05% to 8,447. Italy’s FTSE MIB gained 0.92% to 52,758, while Spain’s IBEX 35 rose 1.03% to 19,577.
