In the framework of the initiative of solidarity with the trapped refugees, organized by the Region of Central Macedonia, gathered quantities of food and necessities, offered free by the firms of Central Macedonia.
Step of the RCM, led by the regional Governor Apostolos Τζιτζικώστα and in the presence of Met Kilkis Andreas ΒεÏγίδη, Regional Social Cohesion and Solidarity Thanks to Αηδονόπουλου and the Regional Public Health Joan Jackie, went in the morning in Eidomeni, where together with the Mayor of Paionia Christos ΓκουντενοÏδη, conducted an autopsy in the camp of immigrants and refugees, and provided food and necessities for their support.
The Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas was “extremely difficult to inhumane, despite the efforts of voluntary and non-governmental organisations and local institutions, living conditions” of the approximately 14,000 refugees and immigrants who remain in the area of ΕιδομÎνης, while he stressed that approximately 60% of the refugees and immigrants who are in our country have been installed in the Regional unit of Kilkis.
“The Kilkis and the Central Macedonia accepts the entire burden of a problem, you can’t pick up the whole of the country. The refugee and migration flows are constantly increasing and tens of thousands of people trapped under inhumane and harsh conditions in places that are organized thanks to the volunteer, the humanitarian imperative and the willingness to offer and solidarity demonstrated by the local communities. But the situation is not manageable. There are 1,600 people just in Eidomeni that don’t even have a tent and spend the night in the countryside. The possibilities of accommodation in Eidomeni is limited. Today, if you do not take timely measures, there is the risk of problems of public health, hygiene and safety for the Region of Central Macedonia, with a very urgent request asked for the declaration of the entire prefecture of Kilkis, in an emergency situation. A request must be made acceptable to the government, in order to enable the Local Government first and second degree to disburse and allocate funds to the areas that host centres of migration and to strengthen the Municipalities and the voluntary organisations with all available means. As an alternative it would be the long-standing request of the Regions and the Municipalities for legislation so as to give them the opportunity to carry out expenditure for the refugee. I’ve already announced the disbursement of its own resources RCM 200,000 euros in order to be able to assist essentially the efforts to address the refugee, while the Municipalities will allocate funds for emergency supplies, if given the legal option of the government. Also, all of the medical staff of Directorates of Health of the RCM is the first time in Eidomeni and other places of concentration of refugees and immigrants in Central Macedonia, in order to provide medical care to these afflicted people,” said mr. Tzitzikostas.
Asked about the summit for the refugee, the Governor pointed out that the European leaders have to take very specific decisions to address the issue on the basis of the rules of solidarity that govern the european family and to sharing the burden of the problem in all the countries of the EU.
