More than 24 hours after going missing, the Macedonian tenant of Stavroula Levendaki — the 45-year-old woman who has been missing from Chania for 20 days — was located by authorities late Friday evening (19.06.2026). According to initial reports, police found the man inside a vehicle near the property where he lived and arrested him on suspicion of narcotics-related offenses.
Arrest and Forensic Evidence
Officers from the Chania Sub-Directorate of Crime Investigation responded immediately, mapping potential routes and conducting close surveillance. They located the suspect shortly after 11 p.m. in an area near Chania city.
Authorities are expected to seek a judicial warrant following preliminary forensic findings. Investigators reportedly discovered bloodstains at two specific locations inside the tenant’s residence. One of those stains — found on the television — appears to belong to Stavroula Levendaki. Police also seized the suspect’s cleaning sponge for laboratory analysis to determine whether attempts were made to clean or tamper with evidence. That examination remains ongoing.
Key Suspect in Disappearance Case
The tenant is considered the central figure and prime suspect in the case. He was the last person reported to have seen Levendaki on 30 May. His sudden disappearance yesterday afternoon — just as police began actively searching for him — further intensified scrutiny.
The man, who has already given multiple statements to investigators regarding Levendaki’s disappearance, was not at home when authorities visited Thursday afternoon. His absence triggered an urgent search operation.
Past Statements Raise Questions
In interviews with Greek media outlets including Mega and Live News, the tenant claimed he had only briefly met Levendaki to hand over rent money. He described her as ‘calm’ and said she entered the house carrying two bags — one transparent, containing eggs — placed them on the sofa, then retrieved them before leaving.
He categorically denied any personal conflict with Levendaki, insisting they had friendly relations: ‘We’d sit outside together, drink beer, tease each other. She’d stay for about half an hour, then head back to work. I even invited her to gatherings with my friends.’
However, he stated that Levendaki had a strained relationship with her brother — saying he had recently evicted her from his home over disagreements about caring for elderly relatives and contributing financially to the household. This claim appears corroborated by documentary video evidence.
