Prominent criminal lawyer Stavros Georgiou died from multiple blunt-force head injuries, according to the forensic autopsy report. His body was discovered inside his Athens office on 3rd September Street. The examination indicates he was struck repeatedly with a blunt and heavy object — possibly also against the wooden surface of a resting bed located in a relaxation room within his office.
The violence left him with severe bleeding. His body was found lying in a pool of blood by his two 16-year-old twin daughters and the building’s security guard. After hours of unsuccessful attempts to contact their father, the teenagers rushed to his office — only to confront the horrific scene.
Police forces, including units from Immediate Response and DIAS (Special Anti-Crime Unit), arrived at the building shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. Their rapid response followed an emergency call from the building’s guard, prompted by the girls’ distress after being unable to gain entry. Officers immediately cordoned off the area, halting pedestrian traffic as seen in exclusive footage obtained by newsit.gr.
The Homicide Department has taken over the investigation and is working to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators responsible for the fatal assault. Investigators are reviewing security camera footage and interviewing neighbors, while no signs of forced entry have been found at the office door — raising the possibility that Georgiou knew his attacker and may have opened the door voluntarily.
Notably, his mobile phone remains missing. Authorities have not yet located it, and are examining whether the assailant(s) took it to erase potentially incriminating communications preceding the attack.
