The first payments for variable electricity tariffs began yesterday, Tuesday, July 1, into the bank accounts of eligible businesses for the consumption period from December 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025. According to data from DEDDHE, as of the same day, a total of 165,881 applications had been submitted by businesses for electricity subsidies, of which 157,820 were approved, 2,393 were rejected, and 5,668 remain pending. At the same time, the Ministry of Environment and Energy announced an extension of the application deadline until Saturday, July 12. Eligible beneficiaries of the measure are businesses with a turnover of up to €10 million for the 2023 financial year. Their inclusion in the program is based on four categories, depending on gross revenues or main AΦΜ (Greek tax identification number), as declared in the Independent Authority for Public Revenues (AADE) registry. Special benefits are provided for energy-intensive activities, such as bakeries, confectioneries, and laundries, which receive double the support amount compared to other businesses. For the first time in such a program, companies found guilty of electricity theft are explicitly excluded from receiving subsidies. These cases amount to approximately 32,000, and their exclusion results in savings of €3 million, which will reinforce the overall budget of the initiative.
