The UK and the US are expected to finalize ‘very soon’ the implementation of the trade agreement reached last month, British Prime Minister Starmers announced today (16/06/2025) ahead of his meeting with the American president in Canada. Donald Trump is set to sign a declaration regarding the terms of the agreement with Kirk Starmers concerning imports of steel, aluminum, ethanol, automobiles, and beef. However, it was unclear whether the signing by the US president would occur after his meeting with the British Prime Minister. ‘I will certainly meet President Trump today and discuss our trade agreement,’ Starmers told reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit works. ‘I am very pleased that we achieved this trade agreement. We are in the final stages of its implementation, and I expect it to be finalized very soon,’ added the British Prime Minister. The UK was the first country to reach an agreement for lower tariffs with the Trump administration. Washington agreed to reduce tariffs on automobile, steel, and aluminum imports from the UK, while London agreed to reduce tariffs on beef and ethanol imports from the US. However, the implementation of the agreement has been delayed as certain details remain unresolved.
