Just hours after an emotional outburst during his testimony at the Appeals Court, where Spyros Bampilas is on trial for two attempted rapes, the actor unleashed fiery comments in multiple directions. One of these was directed towards former SEH president Petros Philippidis. The latter had earlier referred to Bampilas as an “anecdote” inside the courtroom on Monday morning (June 23, 2025). In response, Bampilas explained that he was already a distinguished figure in the theatrical world before Philippidis gained prominence. He emphasized how he was cast in Philippidis’ productions to enhance their quality and addressed being called an “anecdote.” Furthermore, Bampilas highlighted his election to Parliament, stating, “In 1983, when you entered Drama School, I was already starring in mythical plays like Hierosyloi and had participated in significant series with leading roles… For these roles, did you want me to decorate your stage? My service to our art has not been about role size or wealth but happiness. With over 150 theater works, 120 serials, 60 acclaimed films, endless translations, and 40 years of union activism, this is what you call ‘an anecdote.’ It’s an honor we collaborated on great performances, and it’s an honor that you had me—a good actor, as everyone says—to make your shows better. Remember, greatness isn’t just about chasing lead roles but also about making even small parts unforgettable. I hope we can talk sincerely again someday. With love,” wrote Bampilas in his post. Earlier, Philippidis had remarked, “How can I stay calm? Five years I’ve lived like this with prison sentences… An exile in my own home. Where should I go? What should I do? Let me speak my mind. Money and positions. Bampilas became a Member of Parliament, if possible. The anecdote of Greek theater, now an MP. Someone I loved and supported. He became an MP…”
