A brutal and shocking assault took place in Torre Pacheco, a town in Spain’s Murcia region, where an Algerian man was arrested after allegedly attacking a Senegalese neighbor with a hammer—leaving him critically injured and lying in a pool of blood on the street. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. last Thursday (June 25, 2026) in the heart of the town.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect—a man originally from Algeria—got into a verbal altercation with two young men from Senegal, whom he reportedly knew. Witnesses say the confrontation escalated rapidly, leading to violence.
The suspect allegedly struck the first victim repeatedly with a hammer, causing severe head trauma and opening a deep wound. While the man lay motionless on the ground, the attacker reportedly picked up a broken bottle and slashed his neck. Emergency services and local police from Torre Pacheco were alerted after bystanders filmed the attack and called for help.
Officers arriving at the scene found the first victim lying unconscious in a large pool of blood. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition. A second victim—a Malian national and friend of the first—suffered a neck injury and received emergency medical care on-site before being transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect is reportedly known to local authorities due to a prior history of violent and criminal behavior. Neighbors attempted CPR and first aid on one of the victims until emergency responders arrived.
Police quickly located and arrested the suspect, who appeared in footage covered in the victims’ blood. Spanish MEP Jorge Buxadé of the far-right VOX/‘Patriots for Europe’ group responded to the incident during a session of the European Parliament, declaring: ‘Never again. Torre Pacheco. Same story, same story—but we won’t get used to it. We won’t accept it. Spaniards won’t accept it. We must expel them.’
