SpaceX Starship Test Flight Ends in Fiery Debris Shower Over Florida

Another failed SpaceX launch occurred on Friday, March 7, 2025 (Greek time), in southern Texas, filling the skies over Florida with burning debris. The 8th test flight of the massive Starship spacecraft was aimed at testing under pressure conditions but resulted in the loss of the spacecraft. Videos from the test flight show shocking scenes of the spacecraft’s remnants catching fire as they fell from the sky. The 123-meter-tall rocket launched from Texas. SpaceX managed to recover the first-stage launcher using giant mechanical arms, but the spacecraft’s engines began to fail as it headed eastward for a controlled re-entry over the Indian Ocean. Contact with the spacecraft was lost as it began spinning out of control. Despite recovering the returning rocket booster, the Starship was ultimately lost. The Starship reached nearly 150 kilometers before the issue arose and four virtual satellites could deploy. Authorities issued a ‘ground stop’ at several Florida airports due to debris fallout concerns. Miami airport remained immobilized, and Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International reported departure delays Thursday evening because of the debris. SpaceX confirmed the incident via a tweet stating that during the ascent burn, the vehicle experienced rapid unscheduled disassembly and contact was lost. They emphasized learning lessons to improve future missions.
