South Korea: President Yoon Suk Yeol Released from Detention in Seoul

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was released today from a detention center in Seoul after prosecutors decided not to appeal against the court’s decision to revoke his arrest warrant. Despite his release, President Yoon’s suspension from duties remains in effect under charges of inciting rebellion during the brief imposition of martial law on December 3, 2024. The criminal case against Yoon is separate from his impeachment trial. The Constitutional Court of South Korea is expected to make decisions in the coming days regarding whether he will remain president or be removed from office.
