Sokrates Famellos on Reform: Government’s Direction Won’t Change – Progressive Collaboration is Key

Reforms and potential concessions cannot alter the government’s direction, stated Sokrates Famellos during a Political Bureau meeting on Thursday (13.03.2025). He emphasized that massive citizen mobilizations for Democracy and Justice highlight the crisis of trust in the government. “The perception of a cover-up regarding the Tempi scandal is deeply rooted, and the belief that the government’s current functioning will not bring Transparency, Justice, or security is widespread,” Famellos remarked while discussing the upcoming reform. Additionally, Famellos addressed the importance of collaboration, stating that only a strong SYRIZA-PS can implement a clear progressive governance plan and foster political and social alliances. Prioritizing cooperation among progressive forces with specific timelines and goals, Famellos suggested joint parliamentary initiatives and collaboration platforms in society, aiming to complete a nationwide political resurgence. The Political Bureau members unanimously supported collaborations as the citizens’ demand is clear: ‘find solutions.’ Famellos also criticized attempts by the government to equate the tragedy of Tempi with the Mati fire, rejecting any effort at conflation. “Progressive spaces have never been involved in any cover-up schemes,” he concluded.
