Sokrates Famellos: Mitsotakis Regime Hides the Truth About Tempi Tragedy

in

In a fierce attack on the government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Sokrates Famellos, President of SYRIZA-PS, spoke during the parliamentary session regarding the Preliminary Investigation into the Tempi tragedy. He also criticized opposition parties. ‘For two years and four months, the families of the victims have been demanding justice, and Greek society demands transparency and honest answers, which they have not received due to the actions of the Mitsotakis government,’ Famellos emphasized. The regime, he claimed, is doing everything it can to hide the truth and responsibilities related to the incident. Famellos questioned the reduction of OSY staff by 50% from 2019 to 2022, why the telecontrol system in Larissa was not restored after the catastrophic fire in July 2019, and whether the Prime Minister and responsible ministers were aware of the railway’s dangerous state. SYRIZA proposed a documented plan for a preliminary committee to investigate the crime and cover-up attempt, focusing on potential Mitsotakis responsibilities for three offenses, two of which are malicious in nature. Famellos accused other opposition parties like PASOK and New Left of prioritizing party interests over justice, allowing Mitsotakis to appear as a victim rather than an offender.
