Socrates Famellos: Kyriakos Mitsotakis Undermines Parliament to Conceal the Truth

An attack on the government for its attempt to ‘silence’ the pre-investigative committee was launched by the president of SYRIZA, Socrates Famellos, speaking at the party’s Executive Office. Famellos emphasized that “Mitsotakis’s intervention to essentially silence the pre-investigative committee in Parliament regarding the Tempi scandal, without examining witnesses, expert opinions, and documents, constitutes a coup against Justice and society.” He added that it “undermines Parliament in an effort to cover up the truth.” Describing SYRIZA’s stance, Famellos noted: “We will not legitimize an unconstitutional process that nullifies the role of MPs and contributes to their plan to devalue politics and Justice. From the start, SYRIZA-PS has clearly stated the need for extensive oversight by Parliament.” The fast-track procedure and limited oversight by the pre-investigative committee were forewarned by Makis Voridis. Famellos also referenced his meeting with Giorgos Gerapetritis, emphasizing Greece’s absence from key decision-making centers and the need for foreign policy initiatives promoting peace and stability. Furthermore, Famellos highlighted internal party processes, prioritizing the reactivation of SYRIZA to become stronger and more powerful. He proposed a parliamentary convergence, political forum for dialogue with progressive forces, and social collaborations addressing societal issues like accuracy and constitutional reform for public goods and democratic rights.
