Societyâs ills and violence: Change needed
This writing is prompted by the mayhem in Tucson on Jan. 8 involving the death of six and injuries to 14 others. The attack, staged by a 22-year-old man, Jared Loughner, resulted in his being subdued by spectators until the authorities took him into custody. The sheriff blamed the vitriolic rhetoric that has consumed the country, much of it occurring in Arizona.
