Smoke Incident on Athens-Thessaloniki Train Due to Brake Overheating

Passengers experienced a disturbance during the Athens-Thessaloniki train journey when smoke was detected in carriage number 7. On Friday, June 6, 2025, a train departing from Athens at 14:58 encountered a serious issue just before reaching the Livadeia station. Smoke began emanating from the last carriage, and upon arrival at the station, it became even more intense, with the smell filling the compartment. Staff quickly descended to investigate and informed passengers that high temperatures had caused the brakes to overheat, necessitating a temporary halt for about 20 minutes. Afterward, the train resumed its journey but stopped again in Larissa, where many passengers disembarked, freeing up seats. For safety reasons, passengers in carriage 7 were asked to move to the front carriages. The train eventually arrived in Thessaloniki over 30 minutes late, and the affected carriage will be inspected by technical experts.
