A 19-year-old woman has filed a rape complaint with police on the island of Skopelos, accusing a 28-year-old male co-worker of sexually assaulting her while she was intoxicated. According to her statement, she had consumed alcohol during an evening out and later went to the apartment where her boyfriend lived—only to find her co-worker, who shared the residence with him, present.
What Happened That Night
The young woman said she entered the apartment to wait for her boyfriend, but learned he would not be returning that night. She remained there and fell asleep. The next morning, she woke up wearing only her underwear, with her trousers pulled down—and no memory of what had occurred.
Legal Proceedings
The 28-year-old suspect was arrested on Skopelos and brought before the Public Prosecutor of Volos, who charged him with completed rape—a felony under Greek law—and referred the case to the investigating magistrate. He remains in custody pending his scheduled appearance for questioning on Monday. Forensic testing of clothing and a medical-legal examination have been ordered. The accused denies the allegations; his lawyer stated he claims no sexual act took place and says he asked the woman to leave the apartment after learning her boyfriend wouldn’t return.
Background
The complainant had traveled to Skopelos for seasonal work and was employed at the same business as the accused. The two knew each other—not only through their workplace but also via the woman’s boyfriend, with whom the suspect shared accommodation.
The case is now under judicial investigation.
