Skaramagka Interchange: €40.8M Deal Signed

Skaramagka Triple Interchange: €40.8M Contract Signed to Cut Travel Costs for Cars and Trucks

in

Today, Monday, 13 July 2026, the contract for the construction of the Skaramagka Triple Interchange will be signed at the Diomedes Botanical Garden in Haidari, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

A Strategic Project for Western Attica

The €40.8 million project—funded under the contract—is designed to tackle one of the most persistent traffic bottlenecks in Western Attica. The agreement will be signed by Greece’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the contractor consortium METKA AT&E – Domiki Kritis AE, marking the official launch of a strategically vital infrastructure initiative for the Athens basin.

Approximately 100,000 vehicles pass through Skaramagka daily—including nearly 20,000 heavy trucks—causing severe congestion, delays, and added strain on daily commutes, freight logistics, and supply chain operations.

Expected Benefits

Upon completion, average vehicle speeds in the area are projected to rise from 28 km/h to 47 km/h. Annual economic benefits for road users are estimated at around €10 million, driven by reduced travel time and lower operational vehicle costs.

Construction is scheduled to take 36 months from the date of contract signing.

Scope of the Project

The project includes:

  • Completion of the final 1.515 kilometres of the West Peripheral Avenue of Aigaleo, extending it to the Athens–Corinth National Highway;
  • Construction of the new grade-separated semi-interchange at Skaramagka;
  • Upgrading the existing Schisto grade-separated interchange;
  • Building a new grade-separated interchange at the Shipyard area (Naupigeion);
  • Reconfiguration of sections of the Athens–Corinth National Highway and Schisto Avenue;
  • Construction of the necessary stormwater drainage network.
