Skaramaga Shipyards: What the shipowner Prokopiou said about his plans with Mitsotakis

Meeting with the bidder of the competition for the Skaramaga Shipyards, Giorgos Prokopiou, was held today at Maximos Palace by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Prime Minister welcomed the development of the competition and stressed that “the government pays particular attention to the revival of the shipbuilding industry in Greece, after a long period of decline that the industry went through”. It also pointed out, inter alia, the special role that shipyards have for the Armed Forces.

Mr Prokopiou said the government and the prime minister were inspiring confidence and expressed confidence in the country’s prospects. “The take-off of the Greek economy and the Greek mentality begins,” he said, and then analyzed his plans for the shipyards, which concern both the construction of high value-added ships and ship repairs.

He also added that Greece has a high level of human resources and that the development of the shipyard will enable the employment of young highly skilled people, many of whom are currently abroad.

“Greece, which is the first naval power in the world, must become the first to innovate in the shipbuilding industry,” stressed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During the meeting there was also a special debate on the employment of shipyard workers.

Present at the meeting on the government side were Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis, Deputy Prime Minister Thodoros Livanios, Prime Minister Gregory Dimitriadis’ Secretary General and the Head of the Prime Minister’s Economic Office, Alexis Patelis
