The Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments (SIS) has approved the implementation of two Integrated Waste Recycling and Recovery Units in Lamia and Chalkida, along with two Residual Landfill Sites and a Waste Transfer Station in Delphi Municipality, totaling €160.8 million. This marks a significant step toward resolving long-standing environmental and quality-of-life issues in these regions. The project fully aligns with national legislation aiming to reduce landfill waste, minimize environmental impact through organic waste treatment, and produce useful materials or energy. Additionally, it boosts the local economy and promotes sustainable use of natural resources, contributing to improved living standards and environmental balance. The project spans up to 28 years, including an estimated 3-year construction phase and 25 years of operation. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis and attended by Ministers of Interior Theodoros Livanios, Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, Environment and Energy Stavros Papastathopoulos, Development Takis Theodorikakos, and Government Spokesman Akis Skertsos. Also participating via teleconference were General Secretary for Waste Management Coordination Manolis Grafakos and SIS Unit Head Nikos Sergis.
