At a working meeting with a delegation from the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises and Industries (SEV), led by its president Spyros Theodoropoulos, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos emphasized that strengthening modern Greek industry is a top priority for the Ministry of Development, with a focus on action and tangible results. Theodorikakos highlighted that the industrial strategy aims to create a new, more productive and competitive model for the Greek economy, underlining that this is an issue concerning all of Greek society and the nation’s economy. In today’s world of intense competition and high uncertainty, a strong Greek industry is essential for economic sustainability through enhanced productivity and competitiveness—key to reducing unemployment, boosting employment, and improving wages and disposable income for Greek citizens.
The meeting focused on several issues of mutual interest:
Industrial Development Law: Priority is given to supporting manufacturing and major investments. Investment plans were evaluated within 52 days. In the manufacturing sector, 264 investment proposals with a total budget of €1 billion have been submitted. Final lists will be issued by the end of January, as mandated by law. Combined with the framework for major investments and special provisions for border regions, the total investment plan reaches €2.2 billion. Following the completion of the first cycle, a new round for manufacturing and special status projects will be launched, followed by another for major investments. An additional €450 million in funding will be allocated, with disbursements beginning in 2026.
Process Simplification: The ministry’s draft bill, set for approval in February, includes measures to streamline procedures for modernizing industrial facilities and business parks, eliminate bureaucratic hurdles, and legalize existing activities. This will enable investments in high-value sectors such as logistics and data centers.
Energy Costs: The Ministry of Development and SEV are collaborating to help the government adopt the most effective, integrated solution—inspired by the Italian model—to support industry against exceptionally high energy costs, aiming to resolve this critical issue in the coming weeks.
National Spatial Planning: Discussions also covered the development of a Special National Spatial Plan to ensure strategic land use and sustainable industrial growth.
