SignalGate Scandal: Leaked Personal Data of Top US Security Officials Found Online

The SignalGate scandal appears to be escalating. According to German magazine Spiegel, journalists have managed to uncover the personal contact details of key security advisors to the U.S. President online. Reporters from Spiegel found mobile numbers, email addresses, and even some access codes belonging to top officials within Donald Trump’s administration. It is recalled that senior security advisors to Donald Trump discussed a military strike against Yemen’s Houthi rebels via the Signal app. The Spiegel revelation now shows the issue is even bigger, as personal data of high-ranking security officials linked to Donald Trump are circulating freely on the web. To achieve this, Spiegel reporters used facial recognition search engines combined with breached customer data published online. Among the significant figures whose information was found online include National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Many of these numbers and email addresses are still in use and connected to social media profiles like Instagram and LinkedIn. There are also WhatsApp profiles for corresponding phone numbers and even Signal accounts in some cases. Finally, Spiegel reports it is possible foreign intelligence agents may already have accessed the Signal group chat where three top U.S. officials discussed a military strike against Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
