Shock and outrage have followed allegations from four women describing a disturbing reality behind the public image of a former archimandrite—once regarded by their families as a trusted spiritual guide. Speaking publicly for the first time, the women recount incidents they say involved rape, sexual abuse, and total control over their lives.
A Spiritual Authority Beyond Question
According to the women, the former archimandrite held such profound influence over their families that his decisions were never challenged. Within this environment, fear, silence, and unquestioning obedience paved the way for abuse—including rape by a man presented as a spiritual father.
‘These “holy men” told us we must obey because obedience saves us—that the spiritual father stands in God’s place,’ one woman recalled. From childhood, they grew up in a setting where the spiritual father’s word was law, and doubt was equated with spiritual exile.
Control Over Every Aspect of Life
The allegations describe near-total oversight by the former archimandrite—not only over spiritual matters but also finances, marriages, and personal relationships. Families reportedly paid monthly contributions based on income. Matchmaking was tightly managed: designated individuals proposed marriage pairings among parish youth, always subject to his final approval.
Life inside the community followed strict rules: girls wore long clothing from a young age; friendships outside the parish were viewed with suspicion. ‘We were told real friends could only be found within the parish—and that friendships with schoolmates might lead us away from God’s path,’ one woman said.
They were also discouraged from discussing temple activities with their parents. ‘We were urged not to speak to our parents about what happened at the church, because it would negatively affect them—drive them away from God, scandalize them,’ another recounted.
‘After the Brainwashing Came Hell’
The women describe years of normalized suffering, shaped by absolute trust and submission. ‘We had certainly undergone brainwashing—but at the time, we didn’t see it. Everything felt normal. There was blind faith,’ one explained.
What followed, they allege, were sexual abuses, acts of indecency, and rapes that left deep scars. They believe some members of the archimandrite’s inner circle were aware of the abuse but chose not to intervene.
Their testimonies were shared on Mega TV’s program Developments Now.
