A tragic incident unfolded in Cyprus early Tuesday morning (30 June 2026), when a police officer shot his wife before dying by suicide. According to reports, the couple was inside a vehicle on Ilissiou Street near a school in Zakaki, Nicosia — the shooting occurring just before 6:50 a.m., directly in the middle of the road.
Local media, including the Cyprus Times, reported that the pair had reportedly engaged in a heated argument shortly before the incident, though the cause remains unknown. The woman was rushed to hospital intubated and in critical condition, fighting for her life.
As reported by Philenews, the officer allegedly threatened a civilian who had stopped at the scene to offer assistance. In response, Tactical Response Unit (TAU) officers from Limassol were deployed to the area.
