Shakira has officially kicked off her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour in Brazil, marking the first of over 30 concerts she will perform across Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, North America, and Canada. Before taking the stage at Rio de Janeiro’s Nilton Santos stadium, the Colombian singer shared an extensive statement on her social media account, revealing that rehearsals began “a year ago,” with her working “14 hours a day” to create “the best show of my life.”
“In this moment, I write these lines from my dressing room. The reflection in the mirror gives me the image of a woman who has left her last breath in every rehearsal, in every chord, in every step,” Shakira wrote in Spanish, sharing an impressive black-and-white portrait of herself. “I know perfection doesn’t exist, but tonight I will give you my true self, with a voice worn out by experience and a body marked by every battle I’ve won and lost,” she added.
Organized by Live Nation, the ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ tour celebrates the release of her Grammy-winning album of the same name and follows her successful ‘El Dorado World Tour’ from 2017-2018. Her choice of Brazil as the starting point is no coincidence, as Shakira has expressed her special love for the country, which embraced her music early in her career when she was just 18 years old, according to HOLA magazine.
In North America, the tour begins on May 13 in Charlotte and will include stops in Toronto, Boston, Miami, and Las Vegas. Shakira will also headline the WorldPride DC event in Washington D.C. on May 26 and conclude the North American leg in San Francisco on June 30, as reported by Variety.
