Unknown individuals wrote threatening slogans at the political office of Deputy Minister Sevi Voloudaki—and at her family’s home in Chania—referencing the recent fatal grenade attack in Thessaloniki. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when perpetrators spray-painted messages including “Death to New Democracy” and “Gas canisters at your homes” on both locations.
Voloudaki: ‘Fear was never my choice’
In a Facebook post, Voloudaki shared photos of the graffiti and stated she is neither afraid nor intimidated. “Fear was never my choice,” she wrote. “The slogans written at my political office and at my family’s home do not frighten me, nor will they divert me from my duty. My family has learned to stand tall in the face of hardship—with dignity, faith, and strength.
“No one has the right to bring hatred and violence to our doorstep. What angers me is that some people have chosen to side with the killers of Aphrodite Nestora’s mother. I am not afraid. I am not intimidated. I will not step back. I will continue serving citizens with the same commitment and determination, defending the principles of democracy and the rule of law. Fear was never my choice—and it will not be now.”
Marinakis: ‘Democracy will not fear thugs’
Government spokesperson and Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Pavlos Marinakis condemned the act as criminal, describing it as part of an organized campaign of intimidation—not mere protest. “When people write ‘Death to New Democracy’ and ‘Gas canisters at your homes’ outside Deputy Minister Sevi Voloudaki’s home and her family’s residence, we are not facing an act of protest. We are facing an organized effort to intimidate—a brutal assault on democracy itself,” he said.
“We are facing criminals. Targeting individuals and families, threatening violence, and cultivating hatred have no place in a law-abiding state. There are no asterisks, footnotes, or justifications—only one word: condemnation.
“It is unthinkable that anyone would seek to instrumentalize a murderous attack to sow new hatred and threaten people’s lives. Anyone who tolerates such actions—or remains silent in the face of such slogans—bears enormous political and moral responsibility. Democracy will not fear thugs. Threats will break no one. Those who believe they can impose their views through fear and violence will face the consequences of their actions.
“We have full confidence in the authorities to arrest and bring to justice those responsible for this criminal act.”
