Authorities are on high alert regarding the severe weather wave that has been affecting many regions of the country since Monday afternoon (March 31, 2025), including islands such as Mykonos, Paros, Tinos, Syros, Chios, Samos, and Ikaria. Residents have witnessed roads turning into rivers due to intense rainfall. By Tuesday morning (April 1, 2025), the storm’s epicenter shifted from the Cyclades to the eastern Aegean islands.

In Paros, dramatic images emerged showing flash floods dragging cars and flooding businesses and homes located at ground level. Similarly, Mykonos faced significant flooding, with its famous narrow streets submerged under torrential waters. Local media reported widespread damage to houses and businesses caused by heavy downpours.

The rainfall was particularly intense, with precipitation levels reaching between 50-70mm in just 2-3 hours, according to meteorologist Theodoris Koladas. In the sea area between Naxos, Syros, and Mykonos, satellite data recorded an astonishing 159.2mm of rain.

Emergency services in Mykonos and Paros received over 160 calls related to vehicle rescues and blocked roads due to debris. On Chios, strong winds wreaked havoc on the harbor, breaking mooring lines and causing significant damage. Additionally, the village of Komí on Chios experienced a rare hailstorm.

Schools in several islands, including Paros, Syros, Mykonos, Rhodes, Symi, Kos, and others, were closed as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety. Authorities advised residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the severe weather period.

According to the latest updates from the National Meteorological Service (EMY), intermittent heavy rains and storms are expected until Wednesday morning (April 2, 2025) across eastern Greece, including the Cyclades, eastern Sterea, Evia, Attica, Thessaly, Dodecanese, and parts of Crete.
