An unprecedented storm hit northern suburbs of Athens early Friday afternoon (04.04.2025), causing severe traffic congestion on major roadways. The combination of peak hour traffic and heavy rain, which turned roads into rivers, has brought traffic to a standstill. Drivers navigating the busy Kifisos area are facing significant challenges, with delays reported throughout the network in both directions as vehicles move at low speeds. The worst congestion is occurring near Metamorphosis and the entrance to Attiki Odos towards Piraeus. Delays of over 45 minutes are reported on Attiki Odos towards Eleusis from Kandza to Metamorphosis (exit for Lamia). Delays on the airport-bound lane range from 10-15 minutes from Metamorphosis to Kifisias, 10-15 minutes at the Lamia exit, and 15-20 minutes from Metamorphosis (Lamia entrance) to Kifisias. Similarly, Kifisias, Mesogeion, and even central Athens roads are experiencing significant delays.
