Powerful and hurricane-force winds caused significant damage last Saturday (21.06.2025). Trees were uprooted along the Vareia beach in Megara. Intense weather phenomena also struck Agios Theodoros, Corinth, and Ioannina. One of the trees uprooted by the storm in Megara fell on a parked car, causing material damage but fortunately no injuries. The severe bad weather caused destruction in the Vareia area of Megara. Access to the area is temporarily restricted for safety reasons. The relevant authorities have already been alerted and are in the process of removing the fallen trees. The Civil Protection and special teams of the Municipality of Megara, along with the Megara Fire Service, were immediately mobilized to assess the damages and begin restoration work. In Corinth, sudden torrential rain caused serious problems in Isthmia on Saturday afternoon. Within minutes, main roads in the area turned into rushing streams, with water carrying soil, branches, and debris. Traffic was difficult due to flooded roads. Authorities quickly responded, with volunteer teams working to remove debris and drain water. In Agios Theodoros, Corinth, heavy rainfall led to flooding that trapped a driver. Volunteers at the scene, along with municipal and private machinery, managed to free the vehicle. They later cleared roads and areas affected by the strong rain. The storm also hit Ioannina again within 24 hours, turning roads into rivers. Pedestrians sought shelter from the rain. The storm was accompanied by strong winds and light hail in some areas. Meanwhile, in Grevena, hail the size of walnuts fell, damaging crops and causing concern among farmers. A storm also struck Tsotyli in Kozani, flooding courtyards and streets.
