A 16-year-old boy was found guilty today (27 June 2026) of the premeditated murder of 17-year-old Angelos in Serres — a northern Greek city — in an attack that occurred on the evening of 5 January 2026, just before Epiphany. According to reports from ERT Serres, the Juvenile Court sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment for intentional homicide with possible malice — the maximum penalty allowed under Greek law for minors.

The Trial and Charges

The trial began on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at the Juvenile Court in Serres. At the time of the crime, the accused was 15 years and two months old. He faced charges of intentional homicide committed in a calm mental state — classified as a felony under Greek law — and had been held in a juvenile detention facility in Volos since his arrest.

What Happened

The victim, Angelos, was discovered dead in the basement of his home in Serres. Forensic examination revealed 31 external injuries across his body — including contusions on the forehead, ears, eyes, lips, chest, hands, fingers, and legs — as well as abrasions on the jaw, neck, clavicle, thorax, elbows, wrists, back, and waist. The autopsy confirmed crushing injuries to the head, torso, and limbs consistent with a brutal beating. His death resulted from severe cranioencephalic and thoracoabdominal trauma. Investigators also noted dried blood around his nose and signs of splenic rupture and kidney contusion.

According to witness testimony and forensic evidence, Angelos adopted a primarily defensive posture during the assault and did not retaliate. Eyewitnesses — including friends of the victim — confirmed that the accused acted alone. Though he was accompanied by two peers, they did not participate in the attack.

The accused initially claimed he only delivered one elbow strike. However, surveillance footage and the extent and distribution of injuries — many of them severe — contradicted this statement. The forensic report documented repeated blows to both the face and body, with some injuries indicating extreme force and prolonged violence.

Police investigation determined the assault took place within the courtyard of the Holy Metropolis of Serres. The prosecution had previously requested conviction under Article 299 of the Greek Penal Code — intentional homicide — citing clear evidence of premeditation and intent.
