A 16-year-old boy was found guilty today (27 June 2026) of the premeditated murder of 17-year-old Angelos in Serres — a crime that occurred on the eve of Epiphany, 5 January 2026. The Juvenile Court sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment for intentional homicide under Article 299 of the Greek Penal Code — the maximum penalty allowed for a minor convicted of such a serious offence.

Father’s Statement: ‘True Justice Will Never Come’

Speaking exclusively to newsit.gr, the victim’s father said: “True justice for my son’s death will never come. This has been an incredibly difficult time for me and my family — and it will remain so. My son died a martyr’s death, and that fact will never change. I sincerely thank the judiciary and the police — and also all those who stood by us with their support.”

The Trial and Background

The trial began on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at the Juvenile Court in Serres. At the time of the crime, the accused was 15 years and two months old. He appeared in court while detained at a juvenile detention facility in Volos, charged with intentional homicide committed in a calm mental state — classified as a felony under Greek law.

What Happened

The fatal assault took place on the evening of 5 January 2026 in Serres. The 17-year-old victim was discovered dead in the basement of his own home. Forensic examination revealed 31 external injuries across his body — including contusions on the forehead, ears, eyes, lips, chest, arms, fingers, and legs. The autopsy documented blunt-force trauma to the head, torso, and limbs consistent with a severe beating. Cause of death was determined to be cranioencephalic and thoracoabdominal injuries.

Investigators found dried blood around the victim’s nose and noted abrasions on the jaw, neck, clavicle, chest, elbows, wrists, back, and waist. Evidence indicated he had adopted a primarily defensive posture during the attack and did not retaliate. Additional findings included skull and rib fractures, splenic rupture, and kidney contusion.

Although the accused claimed he only delivered a single elbow strike, surveillance footage and forensic evidence contradicted this account. The injuries — numerous, widespread, and severe — pointed to sustained, repeated violence targeting both face and body.

According to police findings, the assault occurred inside the courtyard of the Holy Metropolis of Serres.
