A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon (28.05.2026) in Larissa, central Greece, when a truck veered off course and struck a bridge on the Volos Road — near the city’s entrance and opposite the Express Service facility. The impact caused part of the bridge structure to detach, sending the heavy vehicle crashing onto a roadside curb before landing inside a car yard. In the process, the truck dragged several parked passenger vehicles.
Emergency Response
Firefighters responded immediately and successfully extricated the truck driver, who was then transferred by EKAB ambulance to the on-duty General Hospital of Larissa (GNL) in critical condition. Medical personnel reportedly administered resuscitation en route.
Unclear Cause
The cause of the bridge detachment remains unknown. Authorities have noted that strong winds were blowing at the time of the incident, though no official link has been confirmed.
