Separately after ten years the two bears of Nymphaius fell into hibernation

Separately, for the first time in 10 years, the elderly fell into hibernation to where they were “stickers” since 2015, when they were transferred from the Thessaloniki Zoo to the ARCTUROS Centre for Protection. The 32-year-old bears Sasha and Alexandra, who were inseparable even in their walks at Nymphaeo and fell together in winter lethargy, for the first time this year slept separately. As the communication officer of ARCTUROS, Panos Stefanos, says in the Athenian/Macedonian News Agency, the two “grandmothers” had slept together since the first winter that they had been transferred to Nymphaeo and since then … were starring together. But this year it changed and they slept separately. However, many bears change habits, other times sleep in artificial nests and other times make their own,” explains Mr.Stefanou, adding that the 20 bears of the Protection Centre in Nymphaio entered winter lethargy a little earlier this year, due to weather conditions. Most bears, such as Bradley, Cooper, Patrick, and Massa, preferred the artificial nests prepared by their caregivers, while others, such as Sandy, Mira and “grandmothers”, 32-year-old Tasula and 37-year-old Katerina, chose natural nests. The ARCTUROS protection center at Nympheus will remain closed until March.
