Seismic Activity in Western Attica: Scientists Discuss Minor Activation of Fyle Fault

Concern has been raised following the earthquakes that occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, prompting seismologists to express their concerns. Some experts suggest this could indicate minor activation of the Fyle Fault. The seismic events included three upper tremors measuring 2.5, 2.7, and 3.0 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located north of Aspropyrgos and Eleusis.

Gerasimos Papadopoulos noted on Facebook: “Minor seismic activity, less than magnitude 3, has been observed in Attica, north of Magoula and south of Skourta. Preliminary solutions show a slight activation of the Fyle Fault in the southern foothills of Mount Parnitha.”

Akis Tselentis also commented, stating: “Since noon, some minor earthquakes have been recorded around Eleusis-Mandra. While I cannot yet provide specific details, we are monitoring the situation closely. Remember the standard precautionary measures. Similar phenomena have occurred in the past without leading to significant earthquakes.”

It is worth noting that these earthquakes were particularly noticeable due to their shallow focal depth, not exceeding 5 kilometers.
