Seek out the bird φραγκολίνος and in Greece, whether or not stuffed

Seek out the φραγκολίνος of Greece! This is the φραγκολίνο or… φραγκολίνα (Francolinus francolinus), a beautiful species of bird that belongs to the class of ορνιθόμορφων, such as the pheasants and the partridges, and which existed until the mid-19th century and in our country.
In the context of scientific research on the species, dr. Christos Sokos, θηραματολόγος, addressing a call to those who know to mention stuffed people that might have been preserved from the populations that existed in Crete, Samos, Mytilene and Rhodes.
The same below lists data on the φραγκολίνο:
The species was known in ancient Greece (Pollard 1977), but since then, very few travelers-naturalists recorded it in our country, between the 16th and 19th century. Most notable of these texts are regarded as records of the species in the island of Samos (Tournefort 1717) and in Crete (Belon 1555), while the Bree (1859) mentions that the species was “common” in Samos, Lesvos and Rhodes.
In the book of Tournefort, (Vol. I, p. 311), there is a tintype of an adult male individual, with a caption that it is “a type of bird that hangs out in the marshes,” while in a footnote (Vol. II, p. 111) tells us that the bird that is called “ταγηνάρι”, a name which apparently comes from the word “άτταγας”, the ancient Greek ie. name of a particular kind (Handrinos & Akriotis 1997).
In 1902, the Hungarian Frivaldzsky reports φραγκολίνους in Crete between 1843 and 1845, but without giving more details. If this information is correct, then the species has disappeared from Greece for over 150 years, the last of the I populations may have lived in Crete and in Samos until the mid-19th century. (Chandrinos 1992, Handrinos & Akriotis 1997).
However in Cyprus, according to dr. Σώκο, the situation is completely different. The scientists of the Service Thera & Fauna of Cyprus, not only managed to maintain populations of the species, but with proper management and the appropriate rules, the kind hunted by offering a big benefit for the hunting economy.
Depending on the species could be reintroduced in our country. In particular, in lowland areas of southern Greece, the bird that might be more appropriate than the pheasant, which release the hunting associations.
