The need for readiness due to the ongoing events in Santorini in the last 24 hours is stressed in the newsit.gr by the Professor of Dynamics Tectonics, Applied Geology and Management of Natural Disasters of the Egythmios Lekkas. with the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory recording, among other things, two seismic vibrations of magnitude 4.5 and 4.1 degrees of the Richter scale, focusing southwest of Amorgos. ADVERSION “Amorgos and Santorini are the earthquake and the biggest vibration between these two islands determines the point where the focus is. If it is the focus in Santorini then Santorini, if the focus is in Amorgos, then Amorgos. The movements are generally small”, stresses Efthymios Lekkas. As he points out, over 100 seismic vibrations have occurred in the last three 24 hours in the Cyclades but are small in size. “The earthquakes in Santorini are in the underwater area and have nothing to do with the volcano but because we had a history of the great earthquake of ’56 that was a great earthquake 7.6 Richter, we are in some readiness but not because we are waiting for such a great earthquake, but we must be ready,” he notes. “The fault has not filled with energy to give such a large earthquake”, concludes Euthymios Lekkas.
Santorini: Over 100 earthquakes in the last 24 hours – “We may have a bigger earthquake but not like that of 1956 with 7.6 Richter”
