Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes unveiled details of the ambitious ‘The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation. The project is a tetralogy consisting of four films, each dedicated to a member of the legendary band. All four movies are set to release in theaters in April 2028, though Mendes did not clarify whether they will premiere together or on close dates. Joseph Quinn will portray George Harrison, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. Mendes stated that it will take over a year to film all four movies. Tom Rothman, head of Sony Pictures, humorously compared the project’s scope to ‘Avatar.’ According to Mendes, the Beatles ‘redefined culture and have stayed with us for a lifetime,’ calling them ‘the most important band of all time.’ He expressed his long-standing desire to create a film about them but found the story too vast for a single movie and unsuitable for a TV series. The official synopsis reads, ‘Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.’ Mendes, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor from Neal Street Productions, and Alexandra Derbyshire will produce the films in collaboration with Apple Corps for Sony Pictures.
