Greek criminal lawyer Sakis Kechagioglou has announced that he is representing two of the individuals arrested in connection with the cocaine smuggling case involving raw animal hides soaked in the drug. The case, which led to arrests and court appearances, centers around an alleged “processing plant” discovered in Pikermi following a large-scale operation by Greek police (EΛΑS). According to reports, the hides arrived in Greece, likely from a Latin American country via container, before being processed using special solvents to extract the cocaine.
Kechagioglou stated that he will defend a 28-year-old Colombian national, J.S., and a 41-year-old Albanian national, R.M., who face charges including participation in an international criminal organization, importing cocaine from Colombia and Bolivia, and transporting and processing the seized narcotics in Greece.
In his statement, Kechagioglou emphasized that while the success of the anti-narcotics division should be acknowledged, it must be supported by solid evidence to determine the exact responsibility and involvement of each suspect. He expressed confidence that his clients were merely disposable workers with no ties to the actual owners or distributors of the seized drugs. The lawyer also noted his experience with similar international drug cases makes him cautious about sensational headlines issued at the start of criminal proceedings, especially regarding their eventual legal outcomes.
