Today, Monday (June 23, 2025), according to the church calendar, we honor Saint Aristocles the Presbyter of Tamassos, Saint Agrippina the Martyr, and Saint Lollia the Martyr. The names celebrated today include Aristocles, Aristocléas, Aristókleos, Agrippina, Loulu, Loula, and Lolis. Saint Agrippina was born and martyred in Rome. From a young age, she developed a deep Christian spirit and dedicated herself to serving the Lord and Savior. She donated all her wealth to help the poor and heal the sick. For love of her heavenly Bridegroom, she avoided marriage, choosing instead to become a bride of Christ. Whenever the Roman Church needed assistance, Saint Agrippina was always among the first to offer her valuable services. She provided not only material goods but also spiritual guidance, teaching the Christian faith and leading many astray onto the path of truth. Her divine actions could not remain hidden for long. In 262 AD, she was denounced to the authorities as subverting traditional idol worship. With great courage, she confessed her faith in Christ. Despite severe floggings and tortures, Agrippina’s resolve remained unshaken. Eventually, her body succumbed to the martyrdom, and she passed away with dignity. Three Christian women—Bassa, Paula, and Agathonike—recovered her sacred remains, eventually burying them in Sicily.
