Russia: A fine of 10.5 million rubles on Google for banned content

A Moscow court yesterday fined Alphabet Inc’s Google 10.5 million rubles (121.700 euros) for violating Russian regulations on the removal of banned content.

Russia has systematically imposed fines on major social media companies, claiming they do not remove banned content and forcing large technology companies to open offices in the country.

A Moscow court has ordered Google to unblock its YouTube channel, Tsargrad TV, an Orthodox Christian channel owned by businessman Konstantin Malofeev, which has been fined by the United States and the European Union.
