Russia: Five civilians killed by Ukrainian Strike in Belgorod District · Global Voices

Ukraine continues the attacks on the consistently five civilians being killed and 12 others injured after a blow in the Bielgorod district, which is adjacent to it, District Chief Vitsislav Gladkov announced today. The attack on the village of Rakitnoe in Russia “was the cost of life to five civilians”, the official noted adding that twelve others were “injured”, “between the three minors”. Woman struck by fragment in the abdomen undergoes surgery, while three other wounded, men, are in critical condition, the district chief completed. Russian regions adjacent to Ukraine are increasingly being targeted by Kiev, whose forces launched on the 6th of August a surprise raid on Kursk territory, alongside Bielgorod. Moscow announced in mid-August that it is developing additional forces in Bielgorod, where an emergency was declared, after the hasty removal of the inhabitants of five border villages from 19 August. According to the Ukrainian government, the attack on Russia — the biggest invasion of foreign troops on Russian territory after World War II — was intended, among other things, to force Moscow to rearrange troops operating on the vast front of eastern Ukraine, but which does not seem to have come true, at least to the extent that Kiev expected.
