Roula Pispirigou: Living in Fear Inside Thebes Prison – Sleepless and Afraid of Being Poisoned

in

Since her transfer from Korydallos Prison to the Women’s Prison in Thebes, Roula Pispirigou has reportedly been living in a state of constant fear and insomnia. According to a recent report by Espresso, the convicted mother of three is said to be in ‘survival mode,’ refusing to sleep at night and avoiding any interaction with fellow inmates out of concern for her safety.

Pispirigou, who was sentenced to life imprisonment twice over for the murders of her three daughters, is described as being gripped by paranoia. Sources indicate she spends her nights sitting upright in the middle of her cell, too terrified to close her eyes, waiting anxiously for daylight. During the day, she avoids the prison yard altogether after being met with hostility upon her arrival at the facility.

Her fears extend beyond physical violence — there are concerns she may be poisoned. Initially, she requested a personal cooking appliance to prepare her own meals, but the request was denied. Instead, she now chooses her meals directly from a metal cart containing dozens of dishes, hoping to eliminate the risk of contamination.

The only reprieve she experiences comes from a single weekly phone call, during which she speaks in hushed tones to loved ones. Her only visitors are her sister and mother, and even religious services have become moments of emotional intensity — during a recent Psychosabbato memorial service, she asked a priest to read the names of her late children.

Once considered somewhat protected during her time in Korydallos, Pispirigou is now seen as a target among her fellow inmates, labeled a ‘scarlet woman’ in Greek media — a modern-day Medea whose actions continue to provoke outrage.
