Rome: Opposition Blocks Far-Right Press Conference in Italian Parliament

Clashes erupted today (January 30, 2026) at the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome between left-wing parties and opposition forces protesting a press conference organized by neo-fascist groups. MPs from the Democratic Party, Five Star Movement, Italian Left, and Greens staged a sit-in in the Chamber’s press room to prevent the event. The groups involved—CasaPound, Fronte Skinhead Veneto, and Forza Nuova (New Force)—intended to present initiatives advocating the compulsory repatriation of migrants residing in Italy. The press conference was ultimately cancelled, although some members of these far-right organizations managed to enter parliamentary premises. Opposition forces strongly condemned the initiative and criticized Lega MP Domenico Furtzuele for offering logistical support and effectively reserving the press room for the event. Notably, these groups hold no parliamentary representation, making Furtzuele’s backing pivotal. Protesters chanted, ‘No to neo-Nazis in Parliament.’ Riccardo Magi, leader of the Italian Radicals, emphasized during a demonstration outside Parliament that ‘the ideologies of these groups mirror those driving ICE’s immigration enforcement in the U.S., where people are detained and deported based solely on nationality and origin.’
