Six of the eight suspects arrested in connection with a robbery in Kato Titorea, Phthiotida, have been remanded in custody. Prosecutors allege their involvement not only in that crime but also in ten additional robberies across Greece. The remaining two defendants were released under restrictive judicial conditions.
Clashes Erupt Outside Evelpidon Courts
Meanwhile, tensions escalated outside the Evelpidon courthouse in Athens, where around 50 supporters gathered early in the morning to show solidarity with the accused. As crowds grew, police deployed tear gas and stun grenades to disperse demonstrators. Heavy police forces had been deployed both inside and outside the court complex, leading to several tense standoffs.
Defendants Claim Anarchist Ideology, Reject Hierarchical Roles
According to reports, the 30-year-old man identified by authorities as the alleged ringleader—and his 26-year-old partner, along with a third suspect—admitted involvement in the Kato Titorea robbery. However, they invoked their right to silence regarding the other alleged crimes. All three reportedly described themselves as anarchists and denied any formal hierarchy within the group, rejecting the leadership roles attributed to them by investigators.
“We are friends with my co-defendants. We used no violence or weapons—and never intended to use them, even against police. We offered no resistance to authorities,” the 30-year-old is reported to have stated.
Charges Include Organized Crime and Weapons Offences
The eight suspects collectively face five felonies and six misdemeanors, including charges of forming and participating in a criminal organization, aggravated and repeated theft committed professionally and jointly, robbery committed jointly and en masse, illegal possession of firearms—including military-grade rifles and hand grenades—and illegal carrying of weapons.
